Calcifer the Corgi

Calcifer came to us to work on dog-to-dog reactivity and handling sensitivities. He was quick to snap when uncomfortable and not a fan of being touched, particularly around the head. These behaviours are often rooted in discomfort and lack of confidence, rather than “naughtiness”.

Our focus has been on building Calcifer’s confidence, improving his understanding of clear communication, and giving him predictable, safe experiences. This included muzzle conditioning as a management and safety tool, along with strengthening his obedience so he has structure and guidance in situations he previously found challenging.

Calcifer has worked consistently through Dayschool and Board and Train programs, alongside regular exposure in Saturday classes and social walks. A big part of his progress has also been working with a small number of familiar trainers, allowing him to build trust and feel secure while still being appropriately challenged.

His dedicated owner has played a huge role in his success, staying consistent and following through outside of training sessions. Recently, Calcifer has even welcomed a baby brother into the home and is continuing to thrive, which is a great reflection of the work put into building his stability and coping skills.

Calcifer is a great example of how behaviour change comes from building confidence, creating clarity and supporting the dog through structured, consistent training.
