Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Desensitisation Comment: I wasn’t too sure what Zimba would be unsure of so we decided to go for a little walk with him and just observe his behaviour. He didn’t like our food bin, which is where we keep all the dry kibble for the boarding dogs. So I just sat with him, rewarded him for being in the vicinity of the object that made him so uncomfortable but didn’t force him to interact with it. He didn’t forcefully want to leave the room but I could tell he didn’t want to be there. It was a step in the right direction, so for his “something fun” session I’ll do it around the bin for more positive association. Focus: Desensitisation B
Skill learnt: Recall Comment: For Zimbas recall I worked him outside around our groundskeeper. John, the groundskeeper had a fly net on as well and was mowing the lawn. We kept a fair distance because Zimba was very unsure of this man with the unusual hat on. He was very good at recall off John because he didn’t necessarily want to be anywhere near him. This worked well for us, and next time we will reduce distance and work closer. Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Middle Position Comment: For something fun I decided to work with him around the bin doing “middle”. He wasn’t overly thrilled about this experience so I encouraged him with lots of verbal praise and rewards. We cut the session slightly short so he could decompress after a high stress situation. Focus: Repetition B
