|Skill||Comment||We focused on||Grade|
|Skill learnt: Conditioning||Comment: Zimba’s first session was water conditioning. This is made hard by his wariness of containers! The trainer was going to start slow with a water bowl and teach Zimba to blow bubbles. However he wasn’t keen to put his head in the bowl. The trainer the. Went outside and used the big clam shell. Zimba was better with this but even with only a small amount of water he still wouldn’t take treats out of the water. This will be another work in progress for Zimba. Use lots of good treats to put in the water.||Focus: Repetition||X|
|Skill learnt: Ring a Bell||Comment: Next up for Zimba was ring the bell. As soon as the trainer got near the bell Zimba knew what he had to do and was nosing the rope. But the trainer had to lift the rope up for Zimba to grab hold. Because the rope sways a lot Zimba is still to learn that he needs to grab it himself. It will be great to see him work towards this in future sessions.||Focus: Repetition||B|
|Skill learnt: Recall||Comment: Recalls were the focus of the last session and the trainer did them where it is super smelly for dogs. Zimba started well on a shorter lead, although he still needs that tug on the lead to get his attention. As the session progressed Zimba got very distracted by the smells and refused to come even with a tug on the lead. At this point the trainer took Zimba back to the driveway areas and ended on some wins before the session finished. Next time the trainer will work more in these areas to help Zimba learn that it doesn’t matter what the smells are he needs to recall.||Focus: Distraction||B|
