Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Conditioning Comment: Zimba’s first session was taking food out of different containers. The trainer used the same container as last week and this time there was more progress. As well as taking food from the edges Zimba was able to follow food to allow his head in the container a little. He wouldn’t do it without the lure but it is a step in the right direction. Try luring at home as well as continuing to get him to eat his meals out of different containers. Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: Next up was paws up. Zimba has done well with the big step so trainers want to keep pushing him so that he will put his paws up on anything that is asked of him. He did manage to be lured up on the a squishy disc. He only did it twice but it was an achievement for him. The trainer also put some treats on this item and although took a little while he did eat a little bit off the item. Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Recall Comment: Lastly the trainer took Zimba on a walk to practice recalls in different places. The trainer kept Zimba on a short lead and encouraged him to come when hitting the end of that shorter lead. The trainer ran backwards calling Zimba. He still needed a bit of leash pressure at times to get him to come away from the good smells. But he did well. Trainers will continue walking on the recall to help Zimba learn that the handler is more exciting than anything else that he is smelling! Focus: Distraction C
