Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Recall Comment: Wolfgang’s first session was recall and like Luther, the trainer worked on getting Wolfgang to know that the word come is going to equal food! Outside Wolfgang struggled a little but he did quite well. When it started to rain the trainer continued in the classroom and Wolfgang was a little distracted by other dogs in the classroom but soon started to ignore them. The trainer then worked on the finish position with Wolfgang. Wolfgang worked hard on this but he will need more work on this as he is still sitting a little further away than needed. Work on the come word with Wolfgang so he really starts to know it is a word that means treats! Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Wolfgang worked on drops next and he did a great job. He was quite focused at first and went into position well. As the session progressed he decided he just wanted a belly rub! He was very comical and enjoyed the pats! Back to work after this little break and work on the duration of the drops. Wolfgang was able to hold his drops longer but got distracted easily when the trainer squatted to take photos! A goal for going forward! Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Last up for Wolfgang was place. With dogs being trained in the classroom Wolfgang’s focus wasn’t on the trainer to start with and he was slow to get on place and broke position easily. Using the uhuh word and a few quick repetitions got Wolfgang’s focus on the trainer. During the session the trainer did lots of movements around Wolfgang and worked on him holding position. By the end of the session Wolfgang was holding position despite the trainer pretending to walk off or when running passed Wolfgang. Find different, odd distractions at home to train place around! Focus: Distraction B
