Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For Winstons first session we worked on his cafe training using his drop. This is a good skill for Winston as it allows you to bring him out with you and not stress about him behaving. Winston started off today by not eating any treats so we just used pats as his reward. As the session went on he started to eat but wasn’t very interested in the food still. We made him drop next to the desk and hold his duration which he did really well with. To begin with he did break twice but after using ‘uh uh’ he held it for the rest of the sessions. There was other dogs and people walking around and he still relaxed in his drop really well. The next step for Winston will be to practice this outside so it increases his distractions. Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: For Winstons second session we worked on his paws up skill. This is a good skill for building confidence. Winston struggled with this skill today and was hesitant to even do paws up, so we just worked on building up his confidence with this skill again. He was leaning over the pod to begin with and it took him awhile to build up the courage to place one paw on. Towards the end Winston was placing one paw on but was still pretty hesitant. I would work on just his paws up skill to rebuild some confidence in this area. He may have just been having an off day aswell as he still wasn’t very interested in treats and didn’t seem like his normal self. Focus: Confidence X
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For Winstons last session we worked on his ‘clean’ skill. Winston did super well during this session. We worked on getting him to clean up both the toys before getting rewarded however he did struggle abit more with this. He had it down packed when we did one but with the second toy he got confused a few times. Winston would often grab the toy he had just put away out instead of cleaning up the second. We found to stop him from doing this placing our hand on the toy once he had put it in helped him understand not the grab it out again. He put the two toys away a few times but still needs some work with this as he didn’t completely pick it up. Focus: Repetition B
