Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Winston began his day with his ‘emergency drop’ skill. Winston has great understanding of his drops, but he struggled to do so today if the trainer was slightly above a walking pace. The trainer focused on only rewarding Winston for his quick drops, and using his non-reward marker “ah ah” for his not so quick drops. Winston would only really drop if the trainer had a treat in hand, which is fine to kick start him again, but we want for him to not need a treat lure. Keep practicing this at home, be sure to only reward him for the quick drops and slowly increase your speed as you go. Good work! Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Recall Comment: Next up, Winston worked on his ‘recall’ skill outside on a long line, beginning in a drop first. He did really well with this!! He was able to come to the trainer exactly when called from a drop. The trainer then let him have free range and attempt to call him to come. He again did so good!! Winston came exactly when called and followed it by a sit at the trainer’s feet. Keep on working on this at home and increase the distractions; toys, food, etc. He is such a clever boy and can definitely handle it!! If you are struggling, remember to be the most exciting thing to him and use lots of funny noises, it gets him interested! Focus: Distraction A
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: To finish up, Winston worked on his ‘leg weave’ trick. Winston still needs a lure, which is fine, but he is picking it up really good!! He had such a waggy bum during this session and was eager to get through the trainers legs. The next step for him would be to slowly fade the lure, little by little. The trainer attempted to today and he got a little confused, so the lure remained for the time being. Keep up the awesome work with him!! Focus: Distraction B+

We recommend your next step should be…
