Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For Winnie’s first session we worked on her drop skill, specifically duration. This is a good skill for Winnie as it allows you to place her in a controlled position around distractions. Winnie did really well going into her drop however she did struggle to hold it, especially using people distractions. We began with the trainer taking a step away and Winnie often broke, however towards the end of the session the trainer was able to do a small just with Winnie holding her drop. This was achieved by using ‘uh uh’ if she broke and ‘yes’ if she remained in her drop. The next step for Winnie will be to continue using people distractions while in her drop. Focus: Duration B
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: For Winnie’s second session we worked on her paws up skill. This is a really good skill especially for Winnie as it helps to build confidence. We started with just two paws and then worked up to three. Winnie struggled abit more with 3 paws but was still doing so well and ended up being able to hold it for a few seconds towards the end. The next step for Winnie will be to continue working on her paws up skill to keep increasing her confidence! Focus: Confidence B+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: For Winnie’s last session we worked on her place skill with cat conditioning. This is good as it gets Winnie to remain on the bed so she doesn’t chase the cat at home. Winnie was a little nervous around the cats so we started with some conditioning to build her confidence as she wouldn’t even take treats. After about a minute she settled and we started to get her to go to place. She did relatively well however there was a few time she stepped off before being released. The next step for Winnie will be to continue working on her place skill in the cattery so she continues to get the cat exposure while learning to relax on the bed around them. Focus: Conditioning B
