Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Waffles started his day with some loose lead outside. We started inside, getting Waffle’s engagement before making our way to the car park. Once outside, Waffle’s lost his focus every now and then as there were dogs in the paddock nearby where we were working which made him pull ahead, before making his way back to his trainer’s side. After a bit of repetition, Waffle’s engaged well with his trainer, staying next to him for the remainder of the lesson. Focus: Obedience B+
Skill learnt: Play Comment: We focused this lesson on trying to help teach Waffle to play fetch. We spent a portion of the lesson trying to get Waffles interested in any of the toys we had in the classroom, landing on a tennis ball as this was the only toy he showed any interest in. We used some high energy and excitement to get Waffles to play with the ball, before giving him a lot of praise and treats every time he interacted with it, which helped get him excited. Each time we did this, Waffles was more excited to play with the ball. Focus: Repetition C
Skill learnt: Recall Comment: We practiced Waffle’s recall in the classroom, before making our way outside. We waited for Waffle’s to get distracted, before moving backwards and calling Waffles to get him engaged in coming back to us. After some repetition, Waffle’s was coming back the majority of the time so we upped the distraction, getting close to the paddock a couple of nearby dogs were in before recalling him away. Waffles got distracted periodically, although recovering quickly and coming back to his trainer when called. Focus: Distraction B
