Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Middle Position Comment: His first session today focused on his middles skill. We started with the two treat method (throw one behind, lure back through). He did really well so we started to fade out the first lure. He did get a bit stuck and would drop in front of the trainer so we helped him out. The trainer stepped over him, which made him turn around and face the right way. After a few repetitions like this we were able to build some duration and even introduce a little bit of movement. Tayo did well, keep working on this. Changing up the method as you need to, to help him out! Focus: Repetition B
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: This session focused on Tayo’s sits and drops around Koda. Initially he was very distracted and struggled to do a simple skill but we created a little bit of distance (to set him up for success) and got him engaged, then started to slowly decrease it. This helped him out lots, as we were able to get within a few metres of Koda but Tayo remained focused on his trainer (with the occasional glance at Koda). Always make sure to gain their focus first and show them how rewarding you are before testing them around each other. Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Ring a Bell Comment: For Tayo’s last session we worked on his bell ringing skills. We found that hiding treats under the bell encouraged him to touch/nudge it. Each time he did we marked “yes” and rewarded him. Eventually we were able to remove all the treats from under the bell. Now that he has some idea that touching the bell brings rewards you can reduce the amount of treats hiding under the bell! Focus: Repetition B
