Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Desensitisation Comment: Steele’s first session was noise desensitisation. The trainer first up uses the dog dryer and although nervous Steele was able to go right up to it to take treats. The vacuum took a little more encouraging, but it didn’t take long before he was coming up to the vacuum to have pats and cuddles rather than treats. He did an awesome job. Focus: Desensitisation B+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Next session for Steele was drops. The trainer did this inside with bubbles to start with but Steele was very distracted and excited by this! The trainer worked with the yes marker and treats and Steele did start to think about what he needed to do. More work is needed to resist this party distraction but it was a great start. The trainer then pretended to run passed Steele and at the start he was breaking but once again he started to work out what he needed to do and held position! Keep practicing at home and slowly increasing and changing the distraction up to help Steele learn he needs to stay in position. Focus: Duration C+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Steele’s final session was place with noise and people distraction and he smashed it!! Work was being done in the cattery with angle grinders and tools. Although Steele was not keen for the noise he held place and took treats. He did really well. Steele did break a couple of times but mainly because he wanted to smell the plants in the nearby garden bed. Towards the end of the session the trainer moved place and Steele broke once to get to another dog but resisted people taking to him as they went passed. Well done Steele. Focus: Distraction B+
