Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: The first session for Squid was going to be drop. But Squid was all over the place so the trainer decided on place, to help settle Squid. During all sessions there was thunder. So although Squid didn’t appear frightened by the noise it could still have effected his training. Once Squid was more settled the trainer started teaching Squid Around. From the place bed to a cone that Squid goes around to back on place. It did take a little bit for Squid to get this because at first he seemed wary of the cone. However as the session progressed Squid did well and once around the cone was going back to place straight away. Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Drops were the second session and Squid was still a little silly after being in place while another dog was training. He barked a bit at the other dog but did settle by the end of the other training session. Squid’s drops by the end of the session were fantastic. He went from not dropping straight away to dropping every time and his duration was much better. Focus: Duration B
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Last session for Squid was loose lead walking and as it was raining the trainer set up a bit of an obstacle course for Squid to walk passed without being distracted. It did take a while but by the end Squid was walking well passed the objects. Trainers have noticed that Squid is not happy about having the lead taken off him when in a crate or the kennel. He is growling. We will keep monitoring this and working on stopping it. Focus: Distraction B
