Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Sit Comment: Sit was Silas’s first session, one of the foundation skills that is good for all dogs to know to be used in many situations. Like sitting on walks at each street crossing. Silas followed a food lure to sit and progressed well. This can be practiced at home on a lead and use treats to lure Silas into position. Focus: Repetition C
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Second session for Silas was place. Silas was happy to go on place but was stepping off at every opportunity. The trainer used the uh-uh word to pop Silas back on place. And rewarded with the yes marker. By the end of the session Silas was starting to make good choices about staying on place until released. Next session will be increase the duration and distractions for Silas. Focus: Repetition C
Skill learnt: Desensitisation Comment: Sound exposure for Silas was the final session for Silas. The trainer used a few different basic musical instruments. Silas wasn’t fazed by most of them except the tambourine. However, the trainer used the yes marker while making the noise and Silas was soon more concerned with food than the noise. At home use YouTube to place fireworks and thunder sounds to help expose Silas to different noises. Use the yes marker to help her if she is worried about the noise. Focus: Desensitisation X
