Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: For Shadows first session we worked on her place skill. This skill is useful as it teaches them to settle onto one spot. To begin with a lure was used to get Shadow onto place however she was doing well so we were able to fade out the food lure and just point to the bed and tell her ‘place’. The trainer was able to stand 1 metre away and tell Shadow to go to place by the end of the session. The next step for Shadow will be to increase the distance even further. Focus: Repetition B
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For Shadows second session we worked on her drop skill. This skill is useful for putting them in a controlled position around distractions. As shadow is still learning the skill the trainer used a treat lure to begin with. This lure was pushed into Shadows chest and when she dropped she was told ‘yes’ and given the treat. Shadow was doing really well so the trainer started to fade out the treat lure into just a hand lure. Shadow was dropping majority of the time with just a hand lure so the next step will to continue working on fading out the treat lure. Focus: Repetition B
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: For Shadows last session we worked on her paws up. This is good for building confidence. We originally went to do loose lead however Shadow wasn’t following the lure to walk. Therefore due to Shadow not following the lure we decided to do paws up as we wanted the session to be productive. Shadow was following the lure to step onto the inflatable pod so we used this session to teach her to follow the lure as well as build some confidence. To begin with Shadow was walking around the pod to get the treat however towards the end she was stepping onto the pod without any worries. The next step for Shadow will be to do paws up onto the balance board. Focus: Confidence X
