Skill | Comment | We focused on | Grade |
---|---|---|---|
Skill learnt: Place Training | Comment: First session Shadow worked on his Place skill. Today we worked on his send to place and testing his impulse control with a game of red light green light. Shadow loves a tug toy and can be a bit cheeky and step off the bed before his release but he knows this skill well and responds to his non reward marker “uh uh” and takes himself back to place. Shadow did well being sent to place mid way through a game of tug! Amazing work! Keep working on this skill at home. | Focus: Obedience | B |
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down | Comment: In his second session we worked on Shadows drop skill. Today we worked on his duration and quick repetitions of the skill to test his obedience and understanding of the verbal cue. Quick repetitions also keeps Shadow engaging with us and more focused on the task at hand. Shadow did really well this session! He can still break early at times but is easily redirected back into position by saying uh uh and his duration is improving! Keep pushing this skill at home. | Focus: Repetition | B |
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) | Comment: Final session we were out in the carpark working on Shadows loose lead and recall. Being outside gave us a higher level of distraction with lots of smells and dogs being trained near by. Shadow initially was nose to the ground and not engaging with the trainer, to help over come this we used a tug toy to bring his focus back to us, once engaging got him to do some drops before moving on to the task at hand. Shadow can still pull ahead at times but is showing good progress. His recall is improving but he does tend to zoom past the trainer, keep working on his finish position (a sit) infront of you when working on recall. | Focus: Distraction | C+ |
