Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: In his first session, Roddy focused on further developing his skill drop by beginning to work on emergency drops. We focused on this as a safety skill for his canine reactivity. Roddy was initially unsure and struggled to go into drop when the trainer was moving. The trainer reduced their speed and added a hand signal, this helped Roddy understand the criteria. After several repetitions, the trainer was able to reduce the lure and walk normally. Focus: Foundation C+
Skill learnt: Muzzle Conditioning Comment: In his second session, Roddy focused on further conditioning to the muzzle. Roddy initially performed well, he followed the treats into the muzzle placing his nose inside. After several repetitions, the trainer was able to remove the treat inside the muzzle while he continued to place his nose inside. Towards the end of the session, multiple dogs and trainers entered the classroom. This caused Roddy to become distracted and not take treats or play with the ball. The trainer used the remainder of his session to condition the environment with pats and reassurance. Focus: Conditioning C
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: In his final session, Roddy focused on further developing his skill place within the classroom. Robby was still a little unsettled in this session, the trainer utilised his place skill to help him relax and redirect his focus. Roddy performed well, he responds to the place command but can struggle with duration. As the session progressed he slowly began to hold duration for longer periods with added distractions (balls and toys). Focus: Foundation B
