Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Riley’s first session today was all about her place training basics. We started out using a lure to get her onto the bed but she picked it up quickly and started to follow just a hand gesture (pointed at bed). We stood pretty much next to the bed so it wasn’t too hard for her to understand. We started to work on her duration, to do this we got her onto the bed, mark yes + rewarded a couple times before releasing her with the word break. Riley did really well with this, she showed some understanding of this concept and was waiting for that release word. Keep working on her place training, building up that duration and as she improves increase the distance she is sent from. Focus: Foundation C+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For Riley’s second session today we worked on her drop skill. Since she is still learning this skill we worked using a lure to get her into position. We started just luring her normally (treat on nose and down between front legs) but she kept her bum in the air like a play bow. To help with this we lured her down but used our other hand to put a tiny bit of pressure on her bum to encourage her to drop fully. After a few minutes of this we were able to remove our second hand and just lure her. From here we just did lots of repetitions to help her build understanding of the skill! Focus: Foundation C+
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: Riley’s last session today was focused on her paws up skill. We had to start out with a lure to get her onto the pod but once she had a couple successful attempts she knew exactly what to do. From here we just needed to move the treat above the pod and she went straight into a paws up. Keep working on this skill, increasing duration that she remains in position. We want this skill to be the same as all the others, remain in position until released! Focus: Duration B
