Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Today Poppy started off with ‘loose lead’ walking inside the classroom, adding in some drops, just cause she had so much energy this morning! Poppy did very well and had great engagement, but she got fairly distracted when another dog was in the classroom and would then not drop a few times when asked, but the trainer was easily able to regain her focus with a treat. Keep up the great work with Poppy and giving her a higher reward when around those bigger distractions so she knows where to put her engagement! Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: Next up, Poppy kept working on her ‘orbit’ trick, mainly just getting the hang of walking backwards and behind the trainer. Poppy struggled to walk backwards and behind when she was in an open space, so the trainer moved her in between a wall and she improved so much. Poppy was able to successfully walk behind the trainer backwards a handful of times, but when we would try and get her to continue for the full circle, she got confused and would walk in a straight line instead of a curve to make a circle. Orbit is such a great trick for Poppy to learn as it will help build her rear end awareness and test her focus. Keep up the good work at home and try it in a more closed space, having objects blocking her from walking straight backwards, helping her to go in a curve. Focus: Confidence C+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: To finish off, Poppy revisited her ‘bow’ trick, still luring her into it and getting her to build duration. Poppy follows a lure beautifully and would hold her bow until released almost every time, so the trainer thought to take it to the next level and add something to balance on her bottom! At first Poppy was a bit scared having something being placed on her backside while in position, so we conditioned her to the mixing bowl for several minutes. Once she was comfortable with the new object, we placed her in a bow and she managed to keep the bowl on for a few seconds! AMAZING! The bow is such a cool trick to have and it will also help build confidence, rear end awareness and balance! In the future we would love for Poppy to balance the object for longer. Focus: Duration B
