Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: To start off Poppy’s day, she practiced her ‘loose lead’ walking outside. Poppy has beautiful loose lead, but lacks in engagement. The trainer focused today on rewarding her frequently to build her focus back up, and she responded well to this! By the end of the session Poppy would frequently check back in with the trainer, which is great! Keep up this work at home and if she is lacking engagement, definitely reward her more until she is giving you the amount of attention you want! Good work, Poppy! Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: Next up, Poppy practiced her ‘chin rest’ skill. Poppy is still learning and often gave the trainer her paw when their hand was extended. With the use of her non-reward marker “ah ah”, she would then try give her other paw, very cute, but not quite right! The trainer then used a lure to help guide Poppy to the position requested. Poppy loves her treats so it wasn’t difficult for the trainer to lure her head onto their hand. Poppy would then boop her head against the trainers hand, getting better! The trainer then decided to keep using the lure for the remainder of the session and once the treats were gone, Poppy would be released with ‘break’. This will help her understand that we want her chin resting on our palm until we release her. Focus: Duration C+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: To finish off, Poppy revisited her ‘roll over’ skill. She is still hesitant on getting on her back, but with lots of treats, patience and encouragement the trainer was able to get 1 out of her!! For majority of the session Poppy showed to grow more comfortable in going on her side, which is great! The trainer found it helped it she softly rubbed her sides while luring her into position. Keep up the awesome work, persistence is key!! Focus: Confidence C+
