Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: Poppy began her day by practicing her ‘hold’ skill, using a piece of rope, focusing on duration. Poppy is a very smart girl and has good understanding of holding an object in her mouth, she just struggles to keep it there when we let go of the object (taking away her support). The trainer focused on only rewarding her if she held the rope for a few or more seconds, and using her non-reward marker “ah ah”, if she only placed her mouth on it and let go almost immediately. Poppy responded well to this and was able to do a few great repetitions of holding it for 2-3 seconds, yay! Keep practicing this skill at home, she has almost got it! Just needs some polishing up! Focus: Repetition B
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Next up, Poppy worked on her ‘loose lead’ walking outside. Poppy has beautiful loose lead walking, but she lacks a little in engagement. The trainer went back to basics with a treat lure to get her focus, and it worked for a little, but then Poppy would get a bit excitable and proceed to walk in front of the trainer. With the use of her non-reward marker “ah ah”, Poppy would go back to walking nicely beside the trainer, but her engagement would be gone again. By the end of the session, Poppy was checking in on the trainer regularly, which is great! This was achieved by the trainer making some sounds to get her attention, then once she started realising she was getting rewards every time she looked up, she did it on her own for a little. Keep up the good work!! Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: To finish off, Poppy worked on her ‘bow’ skill, focusing on duration and balancing an object. She did GREAT! Poppy has a beautiful bow and remained there until released 90% of the time WHILE having a cone balancing on her bum! AMAZING! Since she did so well, she was rewarded with some pool playtime for the last 5 minutes of her session and she LOVED it. Keep up the fantastic work at home! Focus: Duration B+
