Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For her first session today we worked on her ‘around’ skill. This involved having her start on place and then getting her to walk around an object, then back to place. We used the plastic pods that we often use for paws up so this seemed to confuse her a little bit as she started to do paws up. We used the lure the first few times to show her what we wanted and after that she seemed to understand the task. She was quite slow with this skill so we made sure to have lots of energy and keep it interesting for her. She did really well with this and we were able to slowly increase the distance every couple minutes! Focus: Repetition B+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For her second session today we practiced her skill, bow. This involves getting them to do half a drop but keeping their bum in the air! Pippy did this skill straight away, we were able to use the treat to lure her into the position and release he before she went into a full drop. She did go into a full drop a couple times so we put our foot underneath her belly so she couldn’t go all the way down. After a couple times of having the foot underneath she didn’t go into a full drop for the rest of the session! Since she proved that she knows this skill we started to use the label “bow”. This skill just needs lots of repetition and proofing in different environments! Pippy did great with this skill today! Focus: Repetition B
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For her last session today we worked on her “hold” skill, mainly focusing on duration. To build duration in this skill we wait for her to mouth the object and only reward the attempts that were longer! She managed some really good holds on the toy bone, by the end of the session she was holding it for approximately 4-5 seconds while the trainer was still holding it and 1-2 seconds when the trainer let go. She just needs lots of practice and repetition and she will nail the skill in no time! Focus: Duration B
