Skill | Comment | We focused on | Grade |
---|---|---|---|
Skill learnt: Place Training | Comment: Our first session with Pippa worked on her place skill with high level distractions involving other trainers and dogs in the classroom. We also used food distractions which was more challenging for Pippa. She demonstrated a good understanding of the skill with a verbal cue, and was able hold duration. Despite the various distractions, she held her engagement and was able to settle pretty well. The food distractions sometimes caused Pippa to break from position. Overall she is improving at her ability to settle around people. Keep up the practice! | Focus: Distraction | B+ |
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down | Comment: The second session focused on Pippa’s drop skill and her ability to hold it for a long duration. We surrounded Pippa with various high level distractions to work on her engagement. This involved other trainers walking around her and lots of treats. Pippa has a good understanding of the skill and can demonstrate her drops on verbal cue, but lacks with duration. Further practice around high level distractions will help Pippa to continually improve. | Focus: Duration | C+ |
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) | Comment: The final session with Pippa was her loose lead. This is was completed outside in the carpark where there were various distractions such as the smell and sound of other dogs, trainers walking past, gardeners and parked cars. She demonstrated good loose lead at certain points. However, her engagement still requires further improvement through more practice and repetition. Continue to practice this skill with distractions! | Focus: Distraction | B |
