Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Conditioning Comment: Pippas first session was focused on conditioning. She was working with a new trainer today so she took a little while to warm up to them in the kennels. Once she was comfortable enough we were able to get the lead on and take her for a walk around the property. Taking her on a confidence walk let’s her explore her surroundings. Sniffing everything is a naturally calming behaviour so letting her do this around the place will help her relax a little bit. By the end of this session she seemed much more confident with the trainer and even had some cuddles. Focus: Conditioning X
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Pippa’s second session today focused on her place training around other dogs. She was on and off with her treats but her duration on place was amazing! She calmly laid on place and just watched the dogs training in the classroom. We tried a peanut butter licki-mat and she showed a little bit of interest for a minute or so. Pippa also managed to stay calm when a reactive dog started barking really loudly! This shows that she is comfortable on place and knows what her job is! Even though she didn’t eat many treats she showed good engagement and knowledge of the place skill. Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Pippa’s last session was focused on loose lead walking around the cattery. She still didn’t take many treats so we focused on keeping her engagement with verbal praise! She responded well to this and was happily walking around the cattery! Although she was sniffing lots of things she didn’t pull on the lead and followed the trainer around! It was nice and calm in the cattery so this helped her build confidence in the new environment. Keep practicing this, even if she doesn’t take treats she responded well to verbal praise! Focus: Distraction B
