Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Piper’s first session was loose lead walking. The trainer ended up outside to do this and Piper was quite distracted. However working in a small area and changing directions frequently meant it didn’t take long for Piper to refocus and end the session well. Focus: Distraction C
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: Next session for Piper was paws up. Initially she wasn’t keen, but given she is doing this well at home the trainer used lots of encouragement, and a bit of lead pressure to get Piper moving along. She wasn’t to keen on her treats so instead she got lots of cuddles and pats for her yes reward and this worked really well. By the end of the session Piper managed paws up on three different items, but she made the trainer work hard for it!!! But well done Miss Pipes. Focus: Repetition B+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: Last up was place with chin rest. Piper was very happy to be on place and didn’t care who was around or what was going on. She just wanted to lie down! The trainer worked on chin rest. This meant Piper could still lie down and also got trained! Chin rest is just getting the dog to rest their chin in your hand. Luring the dog over your hand and then marking. Piper did well but hadn’t quite made the connection yet. But it was a good introduction for her!! A good skill to practice at home while you watch tv!! Focus: Repetition C
