Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For his first session today the trainer worked on his “bang” skill in preparation for Wild West month. His basics for this are solid and the trainer wanted to contuine encouraging him being vocal as he goes from a sit into the “bang” final position as this adds great drama to his skill! The trainer did notice he was having a bit of trouble keeping the duration and so the focus of this session was on building duration of the final position as well as introducing the prop gun as the initial marker for him to go into the skill. The trainer also wanted to make sure each time he did the skill it was from a sit or standing position today as this is most likely how we will be filming him for the video for Wild West. Focus: Repetition B
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For his second session today the trainer worked on pairing his “sit pretty” and his “bang” skills. Since both are such strong skills of Pickles the trainer thought it would be a impressive Wild West trick sequence if pickle could “reach for the sky” by getting into a sit pretty before getting shot with “bang” and dramatically falling to the ground! Since the trainer had never done this sequence with Pickle before they first did a short sit pretty session before just attempting to give his “bang” skill just to see if he would do it while in a sit pretty, amazingly first time he went straight into the “bang” skill! He was highly rewarded for this and the trainer made some great progress with pairing these two skills together! He still needs a few more dedicated sessions before really understanding but he is coming along fast! Focus: Conditioning C+
Skill learnt: Targeting (touch) Comment: For his last session today the trainer worked on the “tnt plunger” to further prep Pickle and the trainer for Wild West month! The idea is that the dog presses down on the TNT plunger on command. For this session the trainer worked on getting Pickle to target the plunger today on his own accord. To start he was pawing at the box and not the plunger itself so the trainer put their hand just under the plunger to help guide him onto it, once he hit it once or twice he was hitting it more consistently as the session went on! They did notice that he switched between his paw and his nose which they didn’t really mind which one he used as long as the plunger was pressed down! If you have a preference let us know and we can start training for his paw or nose pushing the plunger! Focus: Conditioning B
