|Skill||Comment||We focused on||Grade|
|Skill learnt: Exposure||Comment: For Phoenix’s first session today we went for an explore around the car park and the cattery. He did very well sniffing everything but still showing great engagement. However the birds that reside in the cattery made some noise and this startled Phoenix. We worked through this by letting him watch and smell them whilst receiving lots of treats. This way Phoenix can associate the birds with something positive. Every time Phoenix engaged with the trainer we marked it “yes” and gave a reward. This way Phoenix knows that he has done the right thing.||Focus: Conditioning||C+|
|Skill learnt: Place Training||Comment: For the second session today we worked on place training. This is a great way to teach the dog to stay in one place until released. We used a raised bed for this, Phoenix is lured onto the bed, rewarded for being there and then released. He did very well with this however would step off the bed to try and reach another person or dog. If he did step off we just gently guide them back on, then we can release them. He did very well for his first time with this today! To improve this we can increase distractions and duration slowly.||Focus: Distraction||C+|
|Skill learnt: Drop/ Down||Comment: For Phoenix’s last session today we worked on drops in the cattery. This was less distracting than the classroom today as there were lots of dogs being trained. He goes into position well however he does not hold it for very long. To improve this, Phoenix is lured into position, rewarded lots and then released quickly. The time can be built up, slowly increasing the duration. Phoenix did really well today!||Focus: Foundation||C+|
