Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Penny’s first session was charging her yes marker and introduction to place. Yes is the word we use to tell a dog they have done the right thing. That is followed by a treat. The yes marker needs to be charged so that the dog knows the word yes means a treat. Place is a spot that the dog is on and can not move off until released. It teaches them to be calm and still for example when the doorbell rings or people are visiting your house. Penny learnt the place command and the trainer started adding duration of her time on place slightly. Focus: Duration D+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Penny’s second session was a focus on drops. This is a great controlled position to help prevent jumping. Penny needed to be lure into place with food and also struggled to hold position. Next time it will be great to fade out the lure and get penny starting to stay in the position for longer. Focus: Duration D
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Place was again the focus for Penny’s final session. This time there was a big dog and people distraction in the classroom. This is great for getting Penny to understand that she needs to stay on place regardless of the distraction. She did well but still broke a few times. It will be a skill the trainers will continue to work on with Penny. Focus: Distraction C
