Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Oscar’s first session was loose lead walking and he was keen to get on with it and was excited to be out and about with the trainer. Oscar did well but he does get distracted around people and wants to pull. The trainer kept distance and kept moving and this helped but working on skills around people outside should be practiced. This will help Oscar focus on the job at hand. Focus: Repetition A+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Next up was drop. This was done outside where the trainer knew the caretaker was working nearby. Oscar again was not dropping well and popping straight back up. A number of quick repetitions soon had Oscar dropping better. The trainer then worked on duration. As the session progressed the caretaker was able to walk passed with out Oscar breaking. Practicing Oscar’s drop in different places other than at home is important as he needs to remember that he has to work regardless of distractions. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Last up for Oscar was place. The trainer did this up by the kennel yards. The dogs usually are a good distraction for Oscar, however it was more the smells on the ground that got him this time. As the session progressed Oscar was able to hold place better and engaged more. The trainer worked on send to place at this point. Starting off only a small distance away meant less time to be distracted by the smells. Oscar did a great job and the trainer increased the distance to a lead lead length away. Awesome work Oscar. Focus: Distance B
