Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Crate Training Comment: First session for Opal was place. The trainer wasn’t sure what Opal knew but Opal seemed to have a good grasp on place. This meant that the trainer could add in some more distractions. The trainer pretending to walk away proved to much for Opal and she did break a number of times. However by the end of the session Opal was holding place well. The trainer then pretended to run away. Again Opal broke a couple of times but had improved by the end of the session. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Next session for Opal was loose lead walking. While the weather held up the trainer took Opal into the paddock with the sheep and alpacas. Opal was very interested in the animals however, by getting Opal to do basic obedience the trainer was able to get Opal’s focus back! Next time it would be good to get a little closer and help condition Opal more to the animals. Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Drops was the final session Opal. Although Opal knew the command drop she would pop right back up again. So this session the trainer worked on distractions with Opal. This involves an increase of reward until Opal was holding position well. By the end of the session the trainer was able to walk around a little. Next time it would be good to increase the distractions for Opal. Focus: Repetition C
