Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: First session Opal worked on some loose lead and drops out in the carpark before it got too warm! She was quite excited to be out training and was pulling quite heavily to start with, the trainer just stopped walking and waited her out and Opal came to them and sat which we rewarded her for good decision making. Once settled she walked well with her trainer, she was a bit slow on her drops and initially quick to pop up but by the end of the session was holding them as the trainer moved around her. Keep working on this at home. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: Opals second session we started teaching her to jump through a hoop. We found when luring her through the hoop she was more likely to just walk through it and not attempt to jump. To help her understand to jump the trainer removed the hoop and lured Opal over their legs, only rewarding when she jumped not walked over. We then reintroduced the hoop (held above the trainers legs) and this helped Opal start to pick up the foundations of this skill Focus: Repetition B
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Opals final session we worked on her place skill. Today we worked on the grass, had her tethered with a long line and worked on building the distance the trainer could move away. Opal did really well with this! She held her place while the trainer was 4-5metres away and even when they were out of her direct line of sight. She was a bit cheeky at times stepping off the bed for some higher energy movements but was easily directed with a verbal uh uh. Focus: Distance B
