Skill learnt: Trick Training | Comment: Opal was great as usual today, she had her best mate Sam training her today and to make sure she was progressing they had some strict criteria she had to meet today. While we don’t want to get rid of her happy amazing attitude we want to make sure she is also still listening and knows when to turn on “work mode”. For her first session today the trainer wanted to do the fun stuff first and then get serious for the rest of the day so they worked on her “sit pretty” trick skill as this is the one she needs the most work on. The trainer was able to use even less treats to lure her today and she is holding the position quiet well, going forward we need to pair the verbal to her getting up on her back legs. | Focus: Repetition | C+ |
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down | Comment: For her second session today the trainer really wanted to test her obedience skills so chained a few of them together into so skill sequences! Today Opal had to do multiple skills one after the other without a reward and only once the sequence was finished was she rewarded. To make sure she was progressing the trainer would always add one more skill to the end of each sequence to push her. The skills she had to do today were, sit, drop, recall, place, high five and spin! She did awesome and mixing in a few tricks to the sequences made it fun and a little more exciting for Mrs Opal! | Focus: Obedience | B+ |
Skill learnt: Trick Training | Comment: For her last session today the trainer wanted to try teach a brand new skill to Opal using luring and decided on the cone weave! This is an agility activity where she weaves as fast and as tight as she can around some cones before coming back again and going onto place! She did well with the basics following the lure really quickly but she does need a bit of space between each cone. The trainer was also able to phase out the lure for this already having her follow the trainers hand, going forward we will look to phase out the hand gestures and get her even faster through the cones! She was also tested on her loose lead skills which she is still fantastic with and had a record run through the confidence course to finish up her day on a big high, she made it through ever single obstacle in 12.4 seconds! | Focus: Repetition | B+ |
