Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Around/ Barrel Racing Comment: For Ollie’s first session today we worked on his around skill. For this we set him up on place and sent him around a stack on plastic pods. We started with the distance at approx 1 metre and kept increasing it throughout the session. We found that Ollie still needed some guidance with this so we kept using a lure to help him around. It can be a bit confusing using different objects but it’s also good to generalise it early on. Ollie did very well with this, we even started to reduce the movement slightly that the trainer did so he was doing it more on his own. Instead of walking around the cone with him, we would simply take a step between the bed and cone and stretch our arm out for the lure. Keep working on this one, as he shows more understanding start reducing your movement and increase the distance! Focus: Distance B
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For his second session today Ollie worked on his ‘bang’ skill. The focus today was mainly duration in the play dead position. He did really well with this, we could lure him into position and he would lay flat. The only time he would lift his head was for a treat, even then we would feed him the treat so his head would go back down. Ollie did really well with this, keep building duration with this and also the first initial steps of luring him down, slowly reducing hand movement! While luring you can have your hand shaped as a gun to help him understand more. Focus: Duration B+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For his last session today Ollie worked on some emergency drops. We decided to test him outside on the grass. Ollie’s drop skill has come a long way but he still needs some work with his focus. We were able to do quite a few successful reps between his little zoomies when he found a fascinating leaf. Considering he was easily distracted we moved back to the classroom to focus more on the skill. Despite this, he still managed to do the drop when asked! Keep working on this, he has come a long way! Focus: Distraction B
