Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Norbit began his day with his ‘place’ skill, focusing on duration (relaxing) with other dogs present. At first he was very excitable and would not sit still, but as time went on he relaxed himself into a drop and watched the doggo across the room contently. Then other dogs entered the room and he had 3 doggo distractions! He again got excitable, but also plopped himself back into a drop where the trainer rewarded him. Awesome work, Norbit! Keep up the great work at home! Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Recall Comment: Next up, Nawty Norby practiced his ‘recall’ skill outside on a long line. He did very well and had great listening and engagement with the trainer. There were the few odd times when he ran back to the trainer, instead of sitting he would let his nose take him to a new scent, but more often than not he would plop himself in a perfect sit, waiting patiently for his reward, which is amazing!! If you are struggling to get him to recall when you’re out, the trick is to be the MOST exciting thing, make lots of noises, crouch down and make him WANT to only be interested in you. Amazing work! Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Middle Position Comment: To finish off, Norby worked on his ‘middles’ skill inside the classroom. He has good understanding of this skill, but struggles if the trainer is too far away, so the focus of this session was increasing distance. Norbit did well, but a lure was needed more when the distance was increased, which is fine, just something to work on fading at home!! Other than that, he did beautifully, so proud of his efforts today!! Focus: Distance B
