Your journey does not end here, it has only just begun!

Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Exposure Comment: For Mose’s first session today we worked on lots of confidence building exercises. When retrieving him from the kennels he did seem a bit nervous of the new trainer but quickly grew to like them once outside. When we were outside we walked around everywhere, even walked through the van as it was being swept out. He was happy just walking around sniffing everything but did seem a bit unsure at times. When there was a loud noise or when he saw the lion statues he came in quite close to the trainer and was all around their feet. To help with this we stopped, figured out what he was afraid of and helped him through it. In the case of the lion statues we scattered his treats around it to encourage him to approach and investigate, which he did eventually. We also tested him on the stairs today, he did really well but was quite nervous to go up them. These stairs have gaps between them so you can see underneath, this might explain why he was nervous going up but not down. It took a lot of encouragement to get him up so really work on this one, get him used to stairs of all sorts! Focus: Confidence B
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: For his second session we worked on some place training! He showed some really good knowledge of this skill so we decided to do lots of quick repetitions to keep him on his toes! He seemed to really like the fast paced on/off training, he was super engaged. For this skill we would point to the bed, yes, reward, release all quickly. Doing this helps them really understand all the markers and is a fun way to teach it! Focus: Repetition A
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For the last session today we worked on his drop skill. Mose, again showed some good knowledge of this skill and we were able to lure him into position. He struggled with duration so we focused on this. We lured him into a drop, marked yes and rewarded a couple times and then released him. We didn’t move around too much (except for standing back up) because we didn’t want too many distractions. Keep working on this skill, he is doing really well! Focus: Duration C+
