|Skill||Comment||We focused on||Grade|
|Skill learnt: Place Training||Comment: For Monte’s first session we worked on place training and charging the marker. The marker is the way we communicate to the dog that they are doing the right thing. The word we use is “yes.” When we say this word the dog should look to us expecting a treat. Place training is a good way to teach the dog how to stay on a place until released. Monte did well being lured onto the raised bed. After a while Monte would try and step off the bed but would quickly return back to the bed for rewards. To improve duration this needs to be repeated, luring on and releasing from the bed. This was done with dog distractions in the classroom and Monte did superb.||Focus: Foundation||C+|
|Skill learnt: Drop/ Down||Comment: For the second session today we worked on Monte’s drop skill. This involved luring him into the position because he didn’t seem to have any word associations. He would go into the position but wouldn’t hold it for very long. To build duration we used the release word. We would lure him into position, mark “yes” and reward, then release with the word “break.” This way we can slowly increase the time that he is in the position. He did very well with this!||Focus: Foundation||C+|
|Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object)||Comment: For his last session today we worked on his paws up skill. This is a great way to build confidence in their foot placement and different textures. He was lured onto the step easily and would hold it until released. He did very well for his sessions today and is a quick learner.||Focus: Foundation||C+|
