Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: For Molly’s first session today we worked on her paws up skill with the wobble board. The classroom was quiet to start with so she was super engaged. She was a little bit hesitant to put her paws up with the movement so we put our feet underneath the board to stop the wobble. This helped her build confidence with the task first and then we slowly removed our feet from underneath, giving the board some movement. She was happy to put two feet on when there was no movement but as soon as the board moved she would only put one foot on. The movement can be increased slowly to help her build confidence. Considering she got two feet on, she has made some great progress. Focus: Confidence C+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For her second session we focused on her ring toss skill. We worked mainly on getting her to hold the ring. To start with she was only targeting the ring with her nose so we waited until she showed any mouthing behaviours and immediately jack-potted that! It didn’t take her long to realise and she started biting it. From here we can work on duration and increase the mouthing to a hold skill! Towards the end of the session there was a few other dogs in the classroom so she lost interest. She managed to show some progress though! Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For her last session we worked on her ring toss and paws up again. Since she was doing so well with her paws up skill we wanted to keep going with it to make some good progress! Also working on her ring toss skill again helps her progress quicker, just short training sessions helps keep them engaged and makes sure they don’t overthink/get frustrated. She managed to get two paws on the wobble board again but only with minimal movement. This just needs practice and she will eventually gain more and more confidence. Her progress with holding the ring since the second session improved quite a bit! She immediately started mouthing it and had slightly longer duration, 1-2 seconds. Again, these skills just need practice but she is doing well. Focus: Repetition C+
