Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: In mojos first session we trained place with Kong. Kong is a good distraction for him. Training this skill will help him learn to settle in all different environments. Mojo did pretty well as he is still learning did a lot of reward markets so he knew what he was doing was right. Slowly we add distance as well so while he was on place we would take a few steps back. Next session I would still like to work on this because he is only a puppy and he will benefit from consistent training. Training this at home either have his bed or something that’s lifted up off the floor. Lure his nose to his bed once all four paws are on place reward with with “yes” and treats. Keep rewarding as much as you can then if he’s doing well with that add some distance. Focus: Distance C+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Mojos second session we trained drop. Teaching him to drop will help you to have him in a controlled position. Mojo did so well in his drops were still focusing on using a lot of lures because he is only a puppy but we were doing distance as well taking one step back and rewarding with the word “yes” and treats. Next session I would like to work on this more with him till he has it downed pack. Training this at home will help his development with this skill and is trainers. First lure him into a drop we do this by lure his nose forward so he takes a few step forward then put that lure towards the back of him so straight to his nose in a diagonal line to his back, once he’s in a drop reward with “yes” and treats. Keep reward as much as possible. Focus: Distance C+
Skill learnt: Targeting (touch) Comment: Mojos last session we trained touch it’s a targeting skill also good for engagement with different distractions going on around him. Mojo did very well with this skill we had a wooden spoon we would get him to touch with his nose. Training this at home either can get a wooden spoon or something he can tough with his nose ect stick fairy wond just to name a few. When he would sniff it I would reward with “yes” and treats as that’s exactly what we want. Hold the wooden spoon in one hand and tap it with the other when he does reward. Focus: Repetition B
