Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Moby’s first session was intro to the classroom, the yes marker and place. The yes marker is a word we use to tell the dog they did what we asked them to do. It is closely followed by a treat. So first up Moby needs to learn that the word yes means a treat. This was a little harder as Moby was not interested in treats at all. So the trainer used pats as a reward. Place is a great skill for dogs to learn to help impulse control, learn to self settle and to help combat jumping. It was a good intro for Moby and he did well. Focus: Repetition C
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Next up fro Moby was loose lead walking and he did quite well at this. The trainer started in the classroom first up and Moby had times of really good focus! Because he did well in the low level distractions of the classroom the trainer then took him outside. He did pull a bit but the trainer worked in a very small area and changed direction whenever Moby pulled. It was a great first loose lead walking session. At home practice in the hallway. Then when he can do it really well there move to the back yard. When he can do it perfectly in the backyard progress to the front yard. Focus: Distraction C
Skill learnt: Obstacle Course (Confidence Building) Comment: Last session was to be drop. However, Moby was not engaged with the trainer at all and was a bit jumpy with the wind causing noises on the classroom. The trainer decided to take Moby to the confidence course. Moby really needed the trainer to encourage him around and although he wasn’t fazed by the things around him as he went through, he tried to get out of the course of the trainer wasn’t calling him around the course constantly. It would be good to see Moby to have the confidence to go through better next time. Going forward it would be good to see you and Moby for a private session to help address the resource guarding issues and help you implement some rules and boundaries for Moby within your household. Focus: Confidence X
