Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Mila’s first session was loose lead walking. At first Mila was quite distracted so the trainer worked hard to get Mila’s focus back. The trainer ran backwards encouraged Mila to follow and used the yes marker. Mila was much more engaged after this and her walking was more focused on the trainer. At one point the caretaker came passed on the ride on mower and Mila was calm and just watched it go passed. However within a minute a big van came up the drive. This was a bit much for Mila so soon after the mower and she did bark. The trainer then worked again to get Mila’s focus again and continued with a good loose lead walk! It was great progression. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Next up was place. The trainer used the toy again in this session. This helps Mila to focus as well helping her learn to listen when excited. Mila does well with learning this way because she’s enjoys the play. Mila did well going to place even with the excitement of play. But more so she was holding place with the trainer waving the toy around. As the session progressed the trainer used the toy less and added more duration. Although breaking a few times Mila, did well with multiple distractions in the classroom. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Last up was drop. Mila started off not getting into position but using the uhuh word and a bit of leash pressure helped Mila remember what she had to do. The trainer did a number of repetitions. Mila progressed well and the trainer started working on duration. There were a couple of other dogs in the classroom and Mila did well to stick to the task at hand and worked hard on her duration. Although she did still break at times she progressed well. Focus: Duration C+
