|Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull)||Comment: Mavs first two sessions today were all about his obedience at the pony club next door. We focused on his loose lead, drops and recall. For the first part we focused mainly on his loose lead, as this was a new environment it was quite distracting, with all the horse poo and interesting smells/sights. He did pretty well but we did have to change directions a few times to remind him not to pull. After a few minutes he was doing much better and started to engage more and more. From here we could start his drops and recalls!||Focus: Distraction||A|
|Skill learnt: Drop/ Down||Comment: The second half of this adventure was all about his drops and recalls. We practiced his drops with trainer movement for distraction, his drops are really solid and had no troubles at all. The only thing he needs work on is his speed with getting into position. Lastly we worked on his recalls, we did this on a normal length lead. We would wait for him to be distracted by a nice smell and then we would try. He did struggle a little bit and would circle the trainer instead of follow them into a sit. To help with this we would show the treat clearly and wind the lead up as he approached. This encourages him to approach us in a straight line instead of running around us. He did really well at the pony club today, it’s great to be able to push his skills in higher distracting environments.||Focus: Distraction||A|
|Skill learnt: Trick Training||Comment: For his last session today Mav worked on his quoits skill. We worked further on shaping this skill, every time he got the ring closer to the pole we rewarded. However, if he threw the ring away from it we withheld treats. Mav did really well with this today and even managed to get the ring on the pole 3 times! Yay Mav! Keep working on this one, as he builds better understanding of the skill we can push him further and further.||Focus: Foundation||C+|
