Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Mav was so much better with his place skill today! He had good duration (though still broke once or twice at the start) and smashed his send to place today past food and toys. He didn't stop once when going to or from place which is fantastic and he listened well to the trainer. Well done Mav! Next time we'd like to push his place skill outside (weather permitting) for the added distraction. Keep testing him with distractions at home and slowly increase the distance you send him to place from. Focus: Distraction A
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For his second session we worked on Mav's drops. He does well to go into drops so we worked on duration and some food distraction. Like Lady, Mav also gets easily distracted by nearby food when in drop and did take a few cheeky mouthfuls before he learnt to just stay in the drop to get a better reward. Next time we'd like to see him less distracted by food - have him drop near food distractions to help build this skill. Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: For his last session we worked on Mav's loose lead. For the first half of the session we walked around in the cattery. Mav did really well but was reactive towards one of the cat resident (who did start it though). We kept doing laps until Mav was able to walk by and ignore the cat which he did well with. For the latter half we took him outside on the grass. He was a bit distracted for the first few minutes but by the end of the session he had great focus and a lovely loose lead. Next time we'd like to see Mav with great focus on a full session outside as that is where he can struggle most. At home continue focusing on good engagement from Mav when walking outside. Focus: Distraction B
