Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Recall Comment: For his first session we took Mav outside to work on his recall skill. Mav really struggled with his focus outside today - whether he was hyped up by having Lady around, was distracted by the hose being used in the kennels or distracted by cars in the carpark he just had trouble engaging. He did still do some good recalls but they were not a straight focused recall (more coming in the right general direction and finishing in a sit a bit off to the side). At home use shorter distances in low distraction environments to rebuild some repetition in this skill and remind him what the skill should look like. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: As Mav had struggled with focus in the previous session we took him out into the carpark to work on his loose lead and drop skill. He took a little bit to settle and needed a few reminders to stay next to the trainer. Once he was more settled we tested him with sharp inside turns as this is a great way to check how much attention they are giving to the trainer's movements. Mav got caught out once or twice but overall did really well with this. With his drops he was a bit slow to start off with and would be distracted by other staff walking nearby so this is something to continue working on at home. His engagement during the walk was OK but could use improvement - use different skills during the walk to keep him focused on you. Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Recall Comment: For his last session we revisited recall in the carpark. Mav was more engaged this time and did better though there is still room for improvement. His recalls did pick up in speed too which was good to see. He did start to tire a bit near the end so needed a little more guidance on the long line to finish in front of the trainer. Overall a much better session than his first! Focus: Distraction B
