Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: First up for Marley was the sit pretty trick. This is like a beg pose! Marley was quite distracted by another dog. (Looking not barking) because of this she wasn’t keen on treats. Once she settled down she started taking treats and the trainer was able to lure Marley into a sit and then bring the treat to above her nose. Marley didn’t to badly for her first go at this and would at times lift one paw up or push up with her back legs. At homes use the lure and reward a paw up and then two up in the air as she reaches for the treat. Focus: Repetition C
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Marley’s second session was place. The trainer took Marley to the kennels and used a towel for place. Marley struggled at first as place was quite small. Once she established what place was the trainer was able to move quite a way away. Marley did break a number of times but it was a very stimulating environment with people and dogs coming and going. Next time it would be good to see her hold place better. But given the big distractions and the different place she did well. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Last up was drops. The trainer again worked in the kennels area. Marley again struggled with the new environment that she wasn’t just allowed to wander around. The trainer upped the treats and also used the Uhuh word as Marley does know her drops. As the session progressed Marley was doing a great job of holding drop, although again she broke when someone walked by. So going forward pushing Marley in different environments with different distractions is going to be a focus! Focus: Distraction C+
