Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Marleys first session was drop. There was another dog training in the classroom and Marley was quite distracted although not reacting. The trainer worked hard to get Marley to drop and Marley did a great job. She is certainly progressing with her drops and the fact she was able to do them under distraction was fantastic! Keep practicing at home. Both doing a great job! Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Targeting (touch) Comment: Next up for Marley was touch. This involves the dog touching a target stick. At first we just reward Marley for showing interest in it and then starting to reward every time she touches the stick. Marley was off to a slow start with this skill and once again was distracted by the other dogs. She did react a couple of times but the trainer used the Uhuh word and got Marleys attention back. As the session progressed Marley was starting to touch the stick more, however I don’t think she had quite made the connection yet. Something to work towards at home. This a is good confidence trick as later when she knows the command she can ‘touch’ anything. Focus: Repetition C
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Last up for Marley was place. Another dog training around her and no reaction this time. Marley wasn’t keen to stay on place and was stepping off as soon as the trainer would move. The trainer used pats and excited voice as the yes reward as at this point Marley wasn’t taking treats. By the end of the session Marley was holding place much better. Keep practicing at home as this is the perfect skill for Marley whe you are away with her in the caravan. Focus: Distraction C+
