Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Conditioning Comment: Marley’s first session was exposure and conditioning. The trainer took her through the kennels while dogs were being moved. Marley did a great job and although interested, didn’t bark at all. The trainer took her to the office while customers were coming and going with dogs and again Marley was fantastic. The trainer got Marley to sit and although Marley broke a couple of times she still did well. She wasn’t keen on taking treats as she was distracted. For the remainder of the session the trainer walked Marley up and down the main kennel aisle. It was quite noisy and dogs nearby. Marley knocked it out of the park and one proud trainer. Well done to both of you for the work you’ve done to be able to achieve this!! Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Drops were Marley’s second session. As she is now doing quite well with her drops the trainer worked on duration and a bit of distraction. Marley’s duration is getting better all the time but add in a bit of trainer movement and she struggles. The trainer worked with Marley by upping the frequency of treats while moving around Marley. This encouraged Marley to stay out regardless of what’s going on around her. By the end of the session Marley was able to hold position with the trainer moving more around Marley. Next time the trainer would like Marley to hold position while the trainer steps over Marley. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: Last up for Marley was ring a bell. Marley started strong but soon lost interest! She stopped taking treats. So the trainer and Marley had some cuddles and play. Then Marley had another bout of touching the bell. She was touching it fairly consistently but hasn’t quite made the connection yet and was more after the smell of food on the bell! It was a reasonable session to end on given it is so hot. Focus: Repetition C
