Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Marie’s first session was loose lead walking. Marie was hell bent on pulling the training, so to help combat this the trainer frequently changed direction and used treats to help Marie engage. It was a great session and Marie did a fantastic job. Still needs work going forward and at home work in a small area to start with with low distractions. Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Next up was place (bed). Marie was getting off place as soon as she was on the bed. The trainer did a few quick repetitions and Marie started holding a little longer. As the session progressed the trainer was able to start to do some big movements around Marie without her breaking place. Increase distractions slowly at home and make sure her bed gets moved to different parts of the house to help her learn under different distractions. Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: The focus of the last session was paws up. This is luring a dog’s front paws onto an item. Skills like this are great confidence builders. At first Marie didn’t want to step onto the item and after trying for a while Marie lost interest. The trainer got a big step. Marie had no problems stepping on this and enabled her to have some wins! The trainer then put the other smaller item near the bigger step and with some luring, towards the end of the session Marie finally stepped on it! Marie then did some more repetitions and was no longer hesitating to step on the item! Fantastic work. Focus: Repetition B
