Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For Manny’s first session today we worked on his drops with trainer and dog distractions. He knows his drops really well and acknowledged both word and visual cues. We were able to put him in a drop and walk, squat, jog and make silly noises without him breaking position. He was quite distracted when someone walked into the classroom but it was easy to redirect his focus with some treats and a mini recall. The mini recall is simply the trainer walking backwards while calling his name and making funny noises, as soon as he is walking towards the trainer we mark “yes” and reward. Manny’s drops are definitely one of his strongest skills, keep practicing these with different distractions! Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: His second session today was focused on place training with weird distractions. These distractions included bubbles, a lawn mower, walking frame, the trainer being weird and even food distractions. We started with slow movements and slowly increased them to see what he was comfortable with. Manny did so well with these distractions, funnily enough the one he seemed to struggle with the most was the bubbles. We made sure to start with the bubbles away from him and slowly get them closer and closer. When the bubbles went near him he would change position but didn’t brake place! Keep up the good work, Manny is showing so much improvement with his confidence and seems to really love place training. Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Targeting (touch) Comment: For Manny’s last session today he seemed pretty tired so we did some targeting with a touch stick. We simply presented the touch stick in front of him and waited for him to show a behaviour. Not long after placing it in front of him he touched it with his nose. Manny was very tired after his groom and training today so we just kept repeating this for the remainder of his session. Manny did so well today, his confidence is visibly improving and so are his skills! Focus: Repetition B+
