Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For Lunas first session we worked on her drop skill. This skill is useful as it gives them a task to focus on while you are able to focus on something else. Luna is doing well at her drops, and we are even able to start fading out the treat lure and only use a hand lure. At the start of the session, we worked on Luna’s duration as she was breaking her drop after she was given the treat. To help increase her duration we used frequent rewards and if she broke, she was told ‘Uh Uh’ and put back into her drop position. After 5 minutes Luna started to increase her duration and was able to hold her drop for 30 seconds. Near the end of the session, we started to fade out the food lure and only use a hand lure. She did well at this however was sitting at times instead of dropping. This can be due to her not understanding the hand signal completely, so she does the skill she knows best. The next step for Luna will be to continue working on using just a hand lure for her drops as well as working on her duration. Focus: Foundation C+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: For Lunas second session we worked on her place skill. This skill is useful as it gives them a task to focus on while you are able to focus on something else. As Luna is still learning the skill, we began with a food lure onto the bed. Luna was following the food well and going onto place, so we decided to push her and fade out the food lure into only a hand lure. Luna did well going onto place with only a hand lure however she needed the hand to be over the bed to step on. The next step for Luna will be to continue fading out the lure. Focus: Repetition B
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: For Lunas last session we worked on her loose lead walking. This is an important skill to allow walking without pulling. Luna worked in a low distraction environment but did really well with staying focused on her trainer. She maintained eye contact often and only pulled when we walked towards a person. The next step for Luna will be to continue her loose lead walking with medium distractions. Focus: Repetition B
