Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For her first session today since she was so excited to get to work the trainer jumped straight into some drop training to harness that energy and throw it into her skills. She did much better with this today, while still luring under the leg she doesn’t need to have a treat trail made to get her under the leg, she is happy to follow a single lure under and is doing it with a lot more confidence. Since she doesn’t need to the trial the trainer is able to start adding the verbal cue to the skill and has been saying “drop” as soon as her back end touched the floor, while she isn’t showing signs of completely understanding she has made some great steps today and has really seemed to come out of her shell with the trainer. Focus: Foundation C+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For her second session to help with some more confidence the trainer worked on her shake skill. This is a great way for Lilli to gain some confidence with new people or a good indicator when she is uncomfortable with the person, once she knows the verbal command if she refuses for a new person consistently it could mean she is uncomfortable around that person, but first we need to teach her the skill and be confident that she knows it. To do this the trainer would offer their flat hand to Lilli, once she touched it with her paw she was rewarded, this was continued until she was doing it consistently and then the trainer started adding in the verbal command of “paw”. She did so well today, not only was she doing the command each time the verbal was given she was even switching which paw she was using depending on what hand was presented to her! This was an awesome second session and while she still might need some more training with this skill before she is fully competent she is well on her way! Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: For her final session today the trainer worked on her place skill. With a focus on increasing her distance she can be sent to place she was worked inside the classroom today to maximise her opportunity of success by minimising distractions. The trainer had two place beds, one large on small and had them on opposite sides of the classroom. In quick succession Lilli was sent between these two spots as well as the couch, with each successful attempt the distance was increased until she was running across the entire classroom to get to the other place bed or couch. This session was awesome as Lilli had really come out of her shell and was super happy to be doing this work. Not only was she able to increase her distance she showed that she has a solid understanding of this skill as the trainer was able to send her to multiple objects and target specific ones and she went to them! She could still use a little more work on her duration and staying in place but she did amazing this last session today! Focus: Distance B
