Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: After walking around the classroom and observing Levi's reaction to certain objects we decided to build his confidence on the skateboard! He was fine going on the skateboard but struggled when the terrifying object moved from under his feet. As his confidence grew he decided to try and flip the skateboard but scared himself so we were back to square one! He recovered a lot quicker this time and eventually was pushing the skateboard delicately and holding position until released with 'free'. As Levi is food motivated he conquered this fear quicker than anticipated. Focus: Confidence B+
Skill learnt: Desensitisation Comment: We walked around the facility and we noticed that Levi was a little hesitant around the lion statues when we got too close. This was round 2 for Levi's confidence building and he was lured underneath the lion. It took Levi a good 10 minutes to build up his courage to go underneath it and through the legs. After he finally went under we celebrated with play and repeated the behaviour. Each time was quicker than the last going through the lions legs Focus: Confidence B+
Skill learnt: Exposure Comment: People exposure was Levi's last session. This took place when his trainer was in the office so we could work on his exposure to random people entering and leaving his area. He was unsettled to begin with but when given the 'down' command he settled almost instantly. Levi responds well to stimuli when given instruction. It provides a way to advocate for him, in other words it is like saying 'hey, i've got this, you don't need to worry just settle down'. When working on building confidence we look at the rate at which they recover from the stimuli. As Levi's session progressed we noticed his recovery time improved and this is how we monitor their confidence development. Focus: Desensitisation B+
